Speech Therapy

The speech therapists at the diaconal hospital examine and treat people of all ages suffering from speech impediments, speech and voice disorders and dysphagy of an organic or functional nature.

Aims of Speech Therapy

The patients are meant to achieve an individually satisfying level of communicative ability. This may be the level necessary for a child to attend school or for an adult to once again be able to work, but it can also mean making chronically ill people cope with their illness sufficiently.

We pay particular attention to involving relatives into the therapy.

For this reason, logopaedic counselling includes information about the cause and effects of the respective communicative impediment as well as about the treatment, and it provides specific tips for better dealing with it in everyday life.

Moreover, it can provide addresses of self help associations, or arrange for additional interdisciplinary treatment such as through ergotherapy, physiotherapy, paediatric neurology, social paediatrics and the psychological section.

The speech therapists are part of a closely co-operating, interdisciplinary team of physicians, psychologists, occupational and physiotherapists. Together, they offer both competent diagnostics and individual therapy.
