The urological clinic at the diaconal hospital was founded in 1946, which makes it one of the oldest independent urological clinics in Wuerttemberg.

Stationary care:

In principle, only those patients whose disease necessitates stationary treatment are admitted as inpatients. Nevertheless, an unprecedented 941 inpatients were treated in 1998. The average length of hospitalisation was 7.0 days, which is below the average of other urological sections in the country. The section also treats patients with urological problems hospitalised in other sections of the diaconal hospital.

Ambulant operations:

Many smaller operations can be performed on an outpatient basis. This offer is made use of more and more often.

Emergencies:

Emergency patients are treated day and night, even on Sundays and public holidays. Two doctors and a nurse are on call for this purpose.

Spectrum of Services:

Treatment of Stones:lithotripsy (ESWL), urethroscopy (URS) - endoscopically or openly through an incision, endoscopic lithotripsy of renal stones.

Operations of tumoursin the kidneys (Tumournephrectomy), the prostate (radical prostatectomy), the bladder (TUR of the bladder, cystectomy with urine drainage, e.g. neo-urocyste) and the testes (semi-castration, lymphadenectomy, if necessary).

Chemotherapyof the bladder, renal pelvis, ureter, testes, and with advanced prostatic carcinoma. Treatment of disturbance of micturition: transurethral electroresection of the prostate, surgical removal of the prostate, laser treatment of the prostate, Stent's implants, slitting or open operation of urethral stricture.

Treatment of Incontinence:Electro-stimulation, physical exercise of the pelvic diaphragm a. o., collagen injections, colposuspension plasty after a hernia, fascioplasty, artificial sphincter.

Paediatric Urology:Ruflux's Disease, constriction of the pelviureteric junction, cryptorchidism, open vaginal process, phimosis, malposition of the external urethral opening
